mining tailings, and on the fourth side by the road. One of Mr Meyer's daughters, Mrs
T McElwain, late of Millers Flat, recalled the rule that no one pass the pressure gauge
on the pipe from the water race to the claim without checking the pressure. A low

The stone house was considerably modernised in Meyer's time. Cooking over an
open fire in the front room was replaced first by a small stove in the main room and
later by a coal range in the kitchen, a new facility created by walling-in the veranda on
the river side of the house.
